![]() Worst case - you buy a Fusion or Parallels license. Being open source, it certainly will be improving. It really looks promising and I encourage you to give it a try. Regardless, I eventually lost interest in UTM, and waited for the fix for audio in Parallels. I asked about network bridging twice in the UTM Discord forum, but my questions went unanswered. The only option I could get working in UTM however, was shared, where the VM was NATed behind the Mac's IP address. My VMs need to have their own IP on the LAN, which requires the hypervisor to provide a network bridge. I gave up trying to improve graphics performance in UTM, because networking was a show stopper. I've read that the UTM graphics performance issues are actually with QEMU, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to explain why. It was reminiscent of VirtualBox that I tried years ago on my old Intel MacBook Pro before switching to VMware Fusion. Curiously, audio worked fine, but the GUI felt slow and choppy to me. While waiting for Parallels to fix audio in Linux VMs, I installed UTM and created an Ubuntu VM. I participated in the Parallels technical review and purchased a license when it was released. Using multitouch, with a flick of the wrist, I can be in full-screen macOS, Ubuntu, or Windows 11 with each VM “feeling” like it is running at bare-metal speed. For example, I configured four-finger swipes to switch workspaces (desktops) in Trackpad settings on the M1 MacBook. The primary benefit of a Type 2 hypervisor is being able to run multiple OSs side-by-side. It works great, but I am not a fan of dual booting in general. ![]() I am dual-booting the 2014 MBA because I wanted to experience GNOME 40 multitouch natively. Initial problems with audio in Linux have been fixed in v 17. Initial problems with audio in Linux have been fixed in v 17. So, the only viable option for Linux on M1 currently is a Type 2 hypervisor. Support from Apple would speed up the effort. So, not an ideal solution for practical use, but promising. Drivers are needing to be reverse engineered. I also have a 2014 MBA (8 GB / 500 GB) that I dual boot with Fedora 34 and GNOME 40.Īs I understand it, bare-metal installation of Linux on M1 Macs is still in development. As you know, that plan didn’t quite work out AT ALL. I was just going to pick amazing stocks time after time, sit back, and count my money as they ran 100%. When I transitioned into fulltime I had absolutely zero intention of day trading. It worked so well that after not many trades I was able to hit a few big home runs and made the leap to go full time. Because I was working full time when I started trading I knew of nothing else other than researching stocks at night, placing trades in the morning, and just letting them work for a few days til I somehow decided it was time to sell. While that might not be the case for everyone it sure was for me. So if you hit your first big homerun on the short side you typically focus on shorting and if it’s a swing then you focus on swing trading. I’m going to work on compiling some free resources and education that helped me along the way for my next post.Hi Alex, thanks for these blog entries and for the interview. The idea would be to write about things that got me in and out of rough patches, tips to surviving, the best things I learned from those before me, and questions I get from people so they can be referenced by others. ![]() I’m not really sure where I plan to go with this blog, but I know when I started trading some lights started going off in my head when studying the paths of other traders. The hardest part about this job is staring your weaknesses in the eyes and at times making painful changes for the best. It’s required me to become more self-disciplined, mindful, and emotionally controlled. The changes I’ve had to make to become a better trader have spilled over into my life outside of the markets. For example, I watched 20+ hours of risk and probabilities webinars and, while I could never seem to make things work trading S&P futures, it helped me connect the missing pieces to my scaling of position and risk management process. My actual style or strategy is geared towards small cap momentum day trading, but the processes/lessons that I used to improve were adapted from futures, momentum, trend, and options traders so they can be applied across all styles. Hell, from pretty much day one I read about the very things I ignored for years. I wish earlier in my almost 4 year journey I put pieces together that have drastically improved my consistency, but nothing I’ve done is new or a secret by any means. My first 6 months were about as bloody as they could be and I got close to pulling the plug on the whole thing more than once. I’ve been trading full time since June 2013. I don’t want to spoil all the stuff that will be in the recording, but I’m a 27 year old guy living in Texas with my beautiful wife, wild dog, and first baby on the way! I never really thought about being a trader until a few strokes of luck and a brash life changing decision to dive in head first. (grammar and punctuation have never been my strong suit so if that bothers you this is probably not for you) I recently recorded a podcast that’ll probably be released in a few weeks which should provide more color about how I got into trading and how I survived (but far from thrived) the first few years.
